Big barrel of news

*So, exactly how is SEGA doing at the moment? Eurogamer posted an article with all the important 2010 sales data.

*We posted Play.com’s Football Manager 2011 pre-order bonus last week, Digital Download service GetGames now offers a 20% discount and 20 Mega Drive games with a pre-order.

*More Football Manager 2011 news: UK gaming portal Computer and Video Games was the first to review the game.

*SEGA USA is doing a halloween App Store sale. There’s three games at just 99 cents each, while Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I and Football Manager are available at $6.99 and $2.99 respectively. Good stuff.

*Also available from the App Store now: Chu Chu Rocket! Featuring all the original modes, including the 140 puzzles, challenges, and multiplayer modes.

*Nintendo DS owners are now able to download a playable Sonic Colo(u)rs demo from the Wii’s Nintendo Channel.

*There’s not much more to be said about Vanquish at the moment (untill the chart results come in next Monday), but we didn’t post the game’s achievements yet. Situation hereby resolved.

*Remember Let’s Tap! ? Apparently someone at SEGA USA thought; ‘Let’s…release a new cheat code!’. Weird.

*At SEGANEWS.net we have a strict policy to post anything chicken related, so this obscure news-fact just had to be posted: SEGA Japan unveiled some display items (or ‘room goods’ as they like to call them) for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

They will be used by a new feature in the game (called ‘Happy animated picture’) that allows users to share animations. All hail the chicken!

*SEGA Europe posted a new Sonic Free Riders (Kinect) trailer simply called ’Weapons’.

*Our friends at SegaOnline posted two Gettenka War (Nintendo DS) videos from SEGA Japan.

*To conclude this update, a video of SEGA Japan’s latest Derby Owners Club update. Very obscure, but certainly worth a try should you ever come accross a cabinet..

SEGA talks about their ‘Sonic Strategy’
Posted by: S.F @ 8:23 am

With all the recent (and upcoming) releases within the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, it’s good to know about SEGA’s exact strategy concerning the little blue hedgehog. IGN talked to SEGA West CEO Mike Hayes. A quick quote:

‘”It’s all part of a general strategy with Sonic where we are passionate about getting Sonic back up to the quality levels we’ve had historically. We’ve gone through a major segmentation analysis of Sonic and where it would appeal to the different fans.”

Read the full interview HERE.

*Eurogamer talked to SEGA about the Vanquish sales. For now, SEGA is ‘reasonably encouraged’.

Short news roundup

*If you needed another reason not to trust Game Informer and their often ridiculous review scores, Eurogamer taken their Vanquish is a four-hour game’ claim to the test.

*Our friends at SegaOnline posted a gameplay trailer of the upcoming iPhone version of Chu Chu Rocket!

*Yesterday we posted a rather dull European Sonic Free Riders (Kinect) trailer, we have to say; SEGA Japan’s version is a lot better!

*SMS Power posted three very obscure SC-3000 games. There’s Chuugaku Hisshuu Eisakubun (Chuugaku 1-Nen), Tanoshii Sansuu (Shougaku 4-Nen Jou) and Tanoshii Sansuu (Shougaku 4-Nen Jou), so there!

*Finally, some more retro news; an obscure Chinese webshop started selling Dreamcast SD Card readers. They’re ideal for homebrew development and many other Dreamcast applications such as emulators, movies and music.

*Nintendo Power (magazine) was the first to review Sonic Colo(u)rs. The Wii version scored an impressive 9/10, while the DS version earned a respectable 7.5/10.

*More Sonic Colo(u)rs news in the form of a new trailer.

*SEGA USA and Eurogamer both posted news of the iPhone/iPad version of Chu Chu Rocket! , which is nearly here.

*Another game that’s ‘nearly here’ is Sonic Free Riders (Kinect). Eurogamer posted a new trailer.

*Fans of PlatinumGames games like Bayonetta and Vanquish might be in luck, as PlatinumGames wouldn’t mind doing another game deal with SEGA.

PlatinumGamesAtsushi Inaba quoted: ‘The partnership has been great, and we are in talks with Sega now, but there’s nothing concrete we can say about it at the moment.’

*That lovable red brick (the original Master System) turned 25 today! Why not celebrate the fact by plugging it in for a game of Alex Kidd in Miracle World?

*Sonic collectors/fans might want to take a look at this auction.
It’s 19 collected years of Sonic history.

Two new DC games announced for XBLA/PSN

..in the form of SEGA Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5 part 2. Not the most obvious choices, but as SEGA Bass Fishing (a.k.a. Get Bass Fishing) has hit the PC before (making a XBLA/PSN port easier) it’s understandable.

More details can be found HERE and HERE.

*Remember Half-Life, Propeller Arena, Hell-Gate and that godawful Flintstones game? Well, another unreleased Dreamcast game might ‘hit the net’ soon. Name of the game? Worms Pinball.

A short quote (full version
HERE, thanks SegaOnline):

“I have complicated feelings about Shenmue appearing on Yahoo! Mobage. I actually worked on Shenmue, working quite a bit with Yu (Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki). However, Yahoo! Mobage is being started up by a friend of mine.
[..] What makes this complicated for me is that Yu has lowered the quality.'’

*IGN talked toTakashi Iizuki -the head of Sonic Team- about Sonic Colo(u)rs. They talk about the Wisps, the 2D/3D gameplay elements and the game’s appeal to Nintendo fans(!).
